Numbers: Lord Have Mercy

                                                          😟 The Book Of Numbers

The Book of Numbers is said to be named according to the order of time or season for certain people and or circumstances to happen. I think of the series Stranger Things, in which one of the main characters Eleven, has a certain element and course to follow due to the timing in which she was created. True to form the, Book of Numbers is about the order in which things were set to happen and due to the makeup of certain people their character traits marked out their circumstances.
As Moses is trying to lead Israel to the Land of Milk and Honey there are certain people who just don't seem to want to go along with the program. There is constant complaining and just a bunch of awful behavior that only Moses could put up with. This is a true testimony regarding Moses's character in which I thought he was so patient having to deal with a nation of people. In order to lead such stubborn people into the Promise Land, one would need the presence of a no nonsense combat leader with the courage to sternly take charge and to take someone out that needed to be dealt with in a harsh manner. Not everyone was a good person in these times. There were people who caused harm to others, there were people who did awful things in the process of trying to enter the land of Milk and Honey.
Any one in the position of leadership, even parents understand how hard it is to try to lead people in the right direction. It is said that 2million people entered the Promise land.

However, some 15,000 individuals were found dead in their graves. According to tradition, this harrowing ritual was repeated annually for forty years, until the original 600,000 Israelites who left Egypt—those who doubted that they could attain the Promised Land—finally died off.

I guess the most disturbing thing that I found to be in the book of Numbers is Moses's own sister, bad mouthing him. Yes she was dealt with, but some family members really do seem to be a problem instead of the solution. I have found this turmoil of wayward family members to be a problem to date. People by blood that should have your back, stab you in the back, out of spite and jealousy. What is even more troubling is the person that they attack has a heart of gold and a forgiving spirit. Moses still loved his sister and asked God for grace on her behalf.

The only thing I can think of is the Series The Walking Dead. As the  main character tries to lead people into a safe haven not everyone has the desire to listen even though death surrounds them. And others seem to want to throw in the towel anyway. The struggle of dealing with different personality types as well as mentally disturbed people can cause an uproar and great frustration.

The End of Numbers

Numbers 36:13, NIV: These are the commands and regulations the LORD gave through Moses to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.

The take away for me is that through it all God has not given up what he promised to do.
